The group training classes at GreatPaws are designed for people just like you! We focus on teaching real world skills that will allow you to take your dog anywhere with you and not worry about his manners. Did someone mention coffee? With your well behaved dog you can relax at an outside table downtown and sip a latte' while your dog is in a down/stay next to you. Sound impossible? It's not! And we can help you make it happen.

Puppy Jumpstart

For puppies 8-20 weeks There is a prime "window of opportunity" to socialize a puppy and that window is before the age of 16 weeks. So don't miss out! Many dogs develop behavior problems later in life due to a lack of socialization as a puppy including aggression, anxiety and fearful behavior. So embrace every chance you see to socialize your pup and avoid problems before they even start!

Along with teaching sit, down and wait, you will learn how to communicate with your puppy effectively with a variety of different training games designed to start you off on the right paw. Learn how to avoid common problems like jumping, food stealing, and food aggression. Of all the classes that are most important we think this class is it. You can't turn back the clock and socialize a puppy. Plus it's great fun for the whole family!

Manners 101

We've all seen those dogs downtown, resting quietly under an outside table at the local coffee shop. You'd say to yourself "I'd bring my dog if he were that good!" This is the class for you! We teach that skill and many more that will help you have a great canine companion at home and out in public.

"Life skills" are a big focus in this class and include sitting for petting by a stranger, passing by another dog quietly, food safety (no stealing!) and attention games.

Of course we also work on the basics of sit, down, stay, loose leash walking (no pulling!) and come when called. A good foundation always helps the more advanced exercises go smoothly.

Beyond the Basics

Through a series of games and exercises, we'll focus on things like distracted stays, faster responses and better recalls. A few local field trips will help us practice out in the real world, amid real-life distractions and isn't that what it's all about? Having an obedient dog out and about is the goal, so that is where we practice! This is where you really fine tune those skills you've learned in the Manners 101 class.
